For one picture ledge all it takes is:
(1) 1x2
(1) 1x3
(1) 1x4
Each board was 8 feet long
The 1x4 will be in the back-the one that you screw into the wall.
The 1x3 will be on the bottom-Where all of the pictures will sit
The 1x2 will be the lip in the front that holds the pictures on the ledges.
A Kreg Jig was an absolute MUST for this project. You will want to connect all of the boards with that so the seams will stay strong. I connected them about every 4-6 inches. I got mine off of Amazon for a really great price especially for how much I use it!
An alternative would be wood glue and nails. I prefer the pocket holes for the strength though.
Then, since you will see the bottoms of these when you are standing in the foyer I had to fill in the holes with spackle where I drilled the holes.
Caulk in the seams and paint them whatever color you want. If you will be staining them you will obviously want to use real wood. I used MDF since I knew I would be painting them white. The MDF was primed already so I only needed to do 2 coats of white.
Then, have your hot husband screw them into studs.
TA-DA!
